Councils are responsible for maintaining their housing stock. Repair data tells you how quickly they respond to tenants and whether a backlog is building up.

Your local council’s housing repairs team. Find your council on the Commissioner’s directory of Scottish public authorities. You can also send your request through WhatDoTheyKnow, which publishes responses online.

Tips#

  • Councils report some repair statistics to the Scottish Housing Regulator through the Annual Return on the Charter. Check what is already published before submitting your request.
  • Priority categories vary between councils. If the council uses different categories from those in the template, it should still be able to provide a breakdown.
  • If the council says this would exceed the cost limit, drop item 4 and request only items 1 to 3.
