Request the total paid to a specific company by a public authority.

If you want to know how much a public body is paying a particular company, you can ask for the total value of payments. This is useful for tracking outsourcing, major contracts, or potential conflicts of interest.

Dear [AUTHORITY NAME], Please provide the following information about payments made to [COMPANY NAME] in [FINANCIAL YEAR e.g. 2024-25]: 1. The total amount paid to this company during the period. 2. A list of each payment, showing the date, the amount, and what the payment was for. I would prefer to receive this by email. Yours faithfully, [YOUR NAME]

Who to send it to#

Any Scottish public authority that you believe has a contract or relationship with the company. Find the right authority on the Commissioner’s directory of Scottish public authorities. You can also send your request through WhatDoTheyKnow, which publishes responses online.

Tips#

  • Spell the company name exactly as it appears on Companies House. This avoids confusion if the company trades under a different name.
  • If you are not sure which authority pays the company, start with the most likely one. You can always make the same request to other authorities.
  • Start with one financial year. You can request additional years once you have the first response.
