Who to send it to#

Any Scottish public authority: council, health board, or government agency. Find the right authority on the Commissioner’s directory of Scottish public authorities. You can also send your request through WhatDoTheyKnow, which publishes responses online.

Tips#

  • The Public Contracts Scotland website publishes details of some contract awards. Check there before submitting your request to see what is already public.
  • Setting a threshold keeps the request manageable. £50,000 is a common starting point, but adjust depending on the size of the authority.
  • The split between competitive and direct-award contracts is useful for spotting areas where normal tendering is being bypassed.
  • If you are interested in a specific service area (e.g. IT, facilities management, care services), name it in the request.
